A beautiful spring day spent in the woods of Connecticut. The day after some substantial rain and a barrage of violent storms the peace and beauty came forth like like magic creating a true wonderland. It was cool enough for me to wear a flannel shirt and the sky may have brighten some but if so it went unnoticed. I had a first this day and that was a pretty good amount of those little sulphurs flying about. So tag along with me and enjoy what I experienced on this grand spring day.
Absolutely lovely!

Bill it's appreciated.
Beautiful pictures, Alan. Those browns are real beauties, with that one being a real chunk! What a great day to be outdoors, and I am glad you could take advantage of the opportunity.

Sam it was a ten best day so far this year.
That hefty really gave me and the Cane and Silk 3wt a workout. He went airborne several times and then sort of sulked on the bottom. I finally subdued him near that bunch of wood along the bank.
Alan, that hefty one must have been a spectacular sight as it tore up that water and went airborne. People who don't fish will never understand what a thrill it is to witness something like that while feeling the power of the fish on the small rod. It is just the best.
DeleteSam you know how much better a battle is with a wild trout versus a stocked trout. And on the light stick makes it all the better.
DeleteIt is a thrill for sure friend.
You are a true artist with the camera.A beautiful day indeed.

ReplyDeleteI just might have to frame the fly rod and brown---in fact what a fitting name for an image taken by a gifted photographer. Spring is my favorite time of the year and you captured it in true form in this post. Thanks for sharing

Alan,
ReplyDeleteHow incredibly beautiful your spring day turned out to be! The fish, the flies, the greenery all around! Even the water looks more "delicious" now than it does in the winter time (obviously!). Dang, I wanna be where you are!

Doug everyday is getting better, with the rain coming at regular intervals the green-up is exploding, and so are the fish.
Happy here in CT.
Just stunning colors Alan. I think I envy your day!

John so it is.
Hi Alan,
ReplyDeleteThat stream looks so lush and verdant (if not even a little primordial!). Those are some nice brown trout to...
What is the pattern you are using?

Alistair in some places along that stream you almost expect a dinosaur to walk through.
I used several patterns, the first is a Genesee Jewel, the second is a jingler variation, and the last is Salars Nemesis.

ReplyDeleteAWESOME !!!Photos of the wild brownies and wild flowers!!!
Just Stunning!!

Pete it all came together that day. Cool rainy weather should keep it going.
Hard to beat that. Spring is all too short for my taste. A permanent alternation between spring and fall with only a month of summer and winter between would suit me just fine.

Rowan I like your thinking very much.
Hi Alan, Cold and damp = excellent trout fishing. Trout fishing these past few days is about as good as it gets. Hemingway said it in dialog yrs ago "anyone can be a fisherman in May".

John I agree, the trout have been on the heavy feed. A great deal of near surface activity.
Hemingway had it pegged.
