Most times the fish will take at the end of the drift while the fly hangs in the current. I think to truly see the flies as trout might the photos would need to be taken from below the surface of the water. Not a criticism, just an observation. The knot looked so small I wondered if it was a Davey knot (which I always forget how to tie, so I go back to tried and true - a clinch or improved clinch for most flies, and loop knot's for streamers or other big flies)...
