A Fly Pattern Guide

I purchased this guide a few weeks ago, because of my interest in Southern trout flies. When I recieved it and opened it up I was very impressed with how well its written. It lists the traditional patterns, with full color photographs of the flies in detail, along with a brief on their history.

While its not a how to tie book its detail photos of the flies is sufficient enough to tie from, even for me. I'm of the belief that a picture is worth a 1001 words. At a 19.95 price its worth the investment.

With this book I plan on tying some of these patterns for next spring

And these are a classic treat this time of year.... soon to be roasted chestnuts. Those of you who have never tried these, please do.... I'll leave it at that.

  3. If fly fishing the Southern Appalachians appeals to you then may I suggest a book by the late Harry Middleton entitled "On The Spine Of Time". It's a collection of tales about life in the Smokies with trout and fly fishing being the central theme.

The "reading season" is upon us. This book helps!

  5. I like chestnuts very much too. I sometimes buy roasted ones, but when we cook them home, we simply boil them in salted water. We also buy chestnut cream. A friend of my wife gives us her home-made marrons glacés every year in this season.

I too boil them especially when I use them in a risotto.

  7. We have roast chestnuts with our Christmas turkey. We put them in with the roasted vegetables, as they go well with dinner.

    Happy New Year.
