"Rustic"
Coq de Leon is a special breed of chicken from the Leon District of Spain. It is the oldest known breed of chicken bred for tying feathers, dating back to 1624. I ordered a saddle and received it the other day. Upon opening the package I was amazed at the beauty of this feather. It's rustic mottled colors seem to shine like no other feathers. It's a feather that's sort of a badger/grizzly cross, that gives the streamer that natural lateral line common in forage fish.
Coq de Leon feathers can be used by themselves in the tying of streamers, or combined with other colored feathers. The streamer I've tied here is with the Coq de Leon feather by itself. I've given this streamer tied in the Rangeley style the name "Rustic"

Another beautiful tie. And you have a way with names. Great name.

As I tied it that's what came to mind CdL has that rustic look.
A whole CdL feather in a single fly?! You will be giving us British tiers a heart attack :)
ReplyDeleteAre the feathers different to those we have to pay about $7 for a half dozen feathers? If so where do I get me a cape!!!
Lovely streamer though, I would not know how to start with fishing these flies but they sure look lovely.

I believe they are the same. I purchased the cape from Whiting, Silver Grade, $33.00.
Much too beautiful to fish with. Suitable for framing.

It's appreciated.
Beautiful fly and an appropriate name for it. Some day I only hope to be half as good at tying as you are.

Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful fly no doubt and frame worthy as well but I prefer to "frame" a streamer like that in a big browns jaw! Beautiful fish deserve a beautiful fly.

I never thought of that angle. They do for sure.
Beautiful pattern and that neck is to die for!
ReplyDeleteMidgeman,
