Back Roads
Back roads, woods roads, country roads or whatever one chooses to call them are favorites of mine. Most of these roads are made of dirt, or fine gravel. They generally wind through areas with outstanding beauty, beauty in the form of trees, flowers, animal life, meadows and for the most part they have an absence of people. These roads lack those big sprawling homes, golf courses, and other entities that can not compete with the way nature laid it out.
These are the roads I like to travel. Not always to fish a stream that winds along the road, but I must admit that's usually why I'm there. But there are those times we go there to just park the car and walk the road. Pick up a few pine cones, or a few odd shaped colored leaves. To be able to just walk and enjoy hearing nothing can be reason enough to seek these roads.
Proper equipment, and the right vehicle is a must.
Very interesting items can be found. Some of a historic nature.
And some of a humorous nature. What meaning this has I don't know.
This is a prime reason I choose back roads.

fun to see what you come across sometimes...I wish the back of my car was that "clean"

It's natures antique shop.
Done the same many times and it's like a healing and soothing of the mind. The shoes might be left of those chased by a bear and someone made this as a warning sign. Lovely bridge! I just love bridges and many times there are trout holes around them. Thanks for sharing this trip!

You may be correct on the shoes. Bridges and the water under them are a magnet, I never pass one up.
I know the kind of roads you are talking about....I remember them well from growing up in the Hudson Valley. Unfortunately, there are far too few here on Long Island. I love the picture in the header!

They are things of the past in some areas, but at least you know where to find them.
Serenity, Peace, all is well with the world!

Those words and then some.
nice post, a quite back road that leads to a favourite fishing destination is a great way to start the day.

Even on those days when the fish are not biting the walk can be all that's required.
Nothing I like better than seeing where a dirt road goes.

It makes one feel like an explorer.
That's the kind of serenity I always look for. Dirt roads, few if any people and small fish. good show.

You pretty much summed it up.
there is something about driving those washboard roads in search of some peace.
