The last colors of Autumn. Most of the leaves will be gone after the storm. The woods had a wonderful smell this day, it's hard to describe, but if "Yankee Candle" could duplicate it I'm sure it would be a winner.

pre "Sandy"
Someone has been leaving their mark.
Well the northeast is about to be hit by another October storm, the second big one in as many years. "Sandy" will impact Connecticut with heavy rain and strong winds. Last years October snowstorm wreaked havoc that was felt for weeks, and the small streams are still congested with fallen trees.
Yesterday I had the pleasure to enjoy a pre "Sandy" outing along a small stream. A chance to view the last remaining colors of Autumn, and to be able to toss a few dry flies in an attempt to take a wild trout. While the flies worked, bringing many offerings, and a few hookups, none came to hand. Still this day was a success in many ways.
The last colors of Autumn. Most of the leaves will be gone after the storm. The woods had a wonderful smell this day, it's hard to describe, but if "Yankee Candle" could duplicate it I'm sure it would be a winner.
So when I returned home I tried to capture those"Last Colors of Autumn" in a streamer. I think I may have accomplished that, in as much as man can do in creating the works of nature.
So today will be spent putting the deck furniture in a safe place, getting a few batteries, and some other necessities, and perhaps roasting a turkey with all the fixings.

You've captured the autumn colours perfectly in your streamer Alan, very nice. Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, sounds good!

A fine meal for sure, and the best part is the leftovers.
Well done Alan, WELL DONE. The colors are perfectly autumn. Keep your head down and let us know how you are when the storm passes.

I'm sure we'll come through the storm OK, it's the recovery that's tough.
Brk trt, again nice post. I know that fall woods smell?
ReplyDeleteThe smell of the woods that I really admire is when I'm hunting patridge/grouse. Its a mixture of the smell of the autumn woods mixed with the aroma of gun cleaning fluid & the smell of gun powder after the shot.
I believe your a grouse hunter, so you probably know what I mean? Good stuff!!

I relish those hunting aromas in the field, and the aromas that fill the kitchen when the game is cooked.
Brt Trt,
ReplyDeleteI have to say that is one helluva photo at the top of your blog. Think I'll make that my desktop background for a while.

Like the Fall season, that Fly is as good as it could get! Be safe and go carefully.
ReplyDeleteMel Moore,

I tried to capture the season as best as I could.
Brk Trt, you nailed that streamer! Thought I raked them all up but seems you lashed one to a hook and called it a day! haha looks like a great fly that to me seems may do well in the Rangely Region of Maine for salmon! Or even tied a bit larger and swung for steelhead or kings! Anyhow, beautiful work!

Tony,

I could see a salmon in the Kennebago taking a whack at it...also a brookie.
Beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteNailed it.
ReplyDeleteyou've done a great job of capturing the essence of fly fishing for me... this is the yang to the yen of pellet fly fishing on the Swift at the hatchery pipe with other fishermen at your elbow. i'm packing up my Tenkara and heading out right now.... i'll share this with others....
