Here's a featherwing that went together a few weeks ago. I had purchased a silver badger saddle years ago and it's beautiful. I usually pair it up with other feathers to create the effect I like
Hook, Martenek Rangeley Streamer...Body, Gray Yarn... Tag and Rib, Flat Silver Tinsel... Throat, Silver Badger Hackle... Wing, Two Purple, and Two Silver Badger Saddle Hackles... Cheeks, Jungle Cock... Head Peacock Herl.

Every time I enter a fly shop I'll scope out the feathers, not always buying but there are times when you'll find that something special. I say it's not to much of a problem tying, but at first it can frustrate a fellow. The thing is to keep doing it and they will soon be like tying your shoes.

I will add that as I get older a lot of things in fly tying look the same as patterns I have seen before. However, not in this case. The Silver Badger is beautiful work and pleasant on my eyes!

Pete, some I fish but most go into boxes. It's later in life that they'll fetch those thousands.
