The annual fishing derby.
The annual youth fishing derby took place yesterday at the marina where my daughter and son in law keep their boat. The weather could have not been better. Sunny skies and temps around 80. When we arrived the young anglers were chomping at the bit, waiting for the 10 AM official start time. These kids were all sizes and ages 2 to 13.
At 10 the horn sounded and the worms were tossed in. But a few seconds passed when the words "got one" were shouted out. From that time til noon the officials who were measuring and recording the catches were very busy. The marinas waters are home to sunfish, crappie, bluegill, bass, catfish and pickerel.
After the derby had ended, and the tallies were being calculated, we were all treated to a wonderful cookout, with all the favorite summer foods.
Some of the proud winners. Good job by all.
This little guy was caught by Ethan. The turtle grabbed on to the worm and refused to let it go.

That little guy had high hopes for sure.
Always love helping out with Kids fishing events when I can. The excitement and their smiles upon landing a fish are priceless. Thanks for taking your time to support young anglers!!

I agree with you Mel. Need to bring those little ones into the fraternity.
I can remember waiting all year for the local snapper blue derby and having so much fun with it when i was little. Looks like everyone had a great time

Snapper blues, and sunfish still get me excited.
It was a fun time.
Enjoyed this. I miss having young children to take fishing. But I've got some grand kids who will be ready before I know it.
