Over the last few days I have been exploring new streams. With this exploration one finds many new sights, some from the stream and some from the surroundings. The hikes into some of the areas have been tough and the humid weather has not been kind. One who chooses to fish these places will find rewards that can't be found elsewhere. Some of the brook trout have been spectacular both in there ability to elude capture and their sheer beauty. I have said many times that for as many of these wild jewels I have caught their beauty puts me in awe.
All the insect bites and sweat, the tired muscles, and the scraped knee were well worth it. I hope these images can show you what a wonderful experience a small stream can bring.
That hummingbird moth on the fireweed(?) is wonderful. We've been lucky with the streams so far this season. Water levels are dropping, though.

Walt I didn't know the camera picked that up until I put it on the computer.
We can use the rain here in CT. A few streams I visit in Mass. seem to be OK.
Wow - that brookie in hand - looks like september/october already! Gorgeous trip!

Will I've taken several of those pre-spawn brookies the last week or so.
Beautiful scenery on that small stream, but that brookie stole the show.

Mark some areas of CT have been recieving some decent down pours with t-storms. Those waters are doing well.
Remarkable colors on those fish... those are healthy streams.

Spectacular photos Alan. I know just how you feel and it feels good. I love that it's not just about the fishing.

Howard there's so much more to it. Most fly anglers seem to have this inside them.
Great images as always. Just today I was thinking about how the experience is not just about the fishing and along comes your post to reinforce that in my mind. Thanks!

Mark, agreed.
congratulations on the photos are very good pictures, a question about the technique of fishing as small fish: do you take out his barb at hook? do not hurt the fish right.?

Armando the barbs are mashed down. I try not to hurt the fish.
Those are some real stunning brook trout especially the second one with the contrast of the greens on his sides and the fiery orange on his belly. I am impressed by how much water that is in these streams as I went to explore some new streams in eastern CT the other day only to find some dry and others very low.

Adam love the small stream home waters.
It has been an enjoyable, especially after last winter. The fall season is almost here, and that's my favorite.
