We are about a week away from our annual New Years Day fishing meet. This tradition started back in 2010 and has continuous despite some harsh weather. Each year we pick a small stream and gather. Coffee and donuts are served and the day is planned. We then head off to the stream and try to get on the board for the first time in the new year.
Around noon we assemble and enjoy a hot lunch, usually home made chicken soup and chili. The afternoon brings another walk to the stream and we continue until it get to cold, with me it's usually the feet. The first outing started with three of us but has grown to six. There may be an addition this year. Below are a series of the New Years Day outing over the years.
See you gents in a week.....don't forget to buy your 2017 license.
Fond memories !! Can't wait until this year. So thankful for this tradition and sharing the small streams with a group of great gents, the NYD Crew!

Will I hope so too. No issues hopefully.
Those moments in time with fellow fly fishers on the water are some of my most vivid memories as years pass.........
ReplyDeleteWishing all of you who participate a most wonderful day on the water and warm food for the tummy!

Mel it seems as though my mind holds fishing memories very well. Warm socks, warm tales and hot food and drink await.
This looks fantastic! I don't think I'll manage a New Year's Day meet up, but I'm hoping to get out at least one trip before the end of January. Good luck and enjoy the food!!!

Yes sir my friend...you must get out there in January and take your first trout of the year, and hopefully it will be on a dry fly.
My new New Year's tradition is to sit in my warm house, sip a hot toddy and standby for your pictures! Have fun.

Howard that's not a bad way to spend day 1...hopefully we can provide you with some fine photos.
If there wasn't such a vast expanse of ocean between Australia and the US, I'd be asking if I might accompany you all on your New Years Day outing. Wet a fly for all of us who will be with you in spirit.
ReplyDeleteI must apologize for not wishing a Merry Christmas to Jeanette and yourself as well as everyone that comes to this site. I hope the coming new year brings you great joy and good fortune.
Kindest Regards,
Steve.

Steve as you'll be with me in spirit I may at some point on the stream ask you for advice, OK.
Your Christmas wish is on time.
