In the good old summertime.....
Deep into summer, the heat is on. There are some comforts though and I don't mean air conditioning. Local produce. This is why I love this time of year. Raisin cinnamon bread. Found this tasty loaf at one of the farm stands nearby. This can't be made commercially because it requires love. And I love it for breakfast.
Simple salad. Local pickling cukes, red radishes, and slivers of parmesan cheese with a touch of olive oil.
Roasted vegetables...pick what you like. Here is red and sweet potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic. Toss in some fresh herbs salt and pepper and toss with olive oil. Bake until tender and enjoy with a crusty bread.....you like summer too.
Supporting your local farmer, thank you, Alan. ...which brings me around to the Cow Dung fly; have you ever tried that old pattern?

Mike we have several local farmers that are quite close, and we do give them quite a bit of business.
I will tell you a secret but promise to keep it to yourself... yes I do fish it and I have had decent success with it.
Na zdravie! Health and happiness and enough time to enjoy them.

John those two words and what they mean are the most important things in life.
Alan, I do enjoy the local produce myself. The salad and bread look wonderful. I am blessed to serve the south central pa. With my job. I don't have to tell you all the Amish produce stands I see in a day of travel. I try to support as many as I can. But I would go broke if I supported them all. Its a blessed time of year.

Brad I did a couple of trips to Lancaster and vicinity and you talk about FRESH, I mean everything. We purchased produce, meat, breads, and chips and pretzels. Loved it there. Your very fortunate.
Brad, It's 'the season of plenty' just one delicious ripening after another. Enjoy! John
DeleteAlan,

Doug we all could stand to loose, but how about we start tomorrow.
Fresh from your own garden, there's not any better.
Eat on, eat fresh.

Mike it's a tough post to look at when your doing so well on your diet.
Now have some cinnamon swirl bread.
That is some good eating, Alan. My garden is producing many summer squash, cucumbers and zucchinis. Tomato plants are looking good with many small green ones that will be right in the zone in about 3 weeks. We need rain around these parts of Western Mass, but so far the garden is doing well with a little help from my wife and me watering from time to time.

Sam that's a productive garden, I love fried zucchini as well as steamed and well buttered yellow squash.
Rain has been sparse but not to the crisis point.
That's proper food. Wonderful products. Regards, John

John it is satisfying.
Alan, My Dad was the baker and home made raisin bread was one of his specialties. Is that a little bit of red pepper flakes I see on the salad?

Kurt not many things are better than home made raisin bread.
Yes sir buddy it's hot pepper. I love the stuff.
Funny, but my appetite takes a nosedive during the summer so tonight I had grilled veggies and pirogies for dinner. Now I've got to find some homemade cinnamon raisin bread!
