Pies, Pies and a BCT

The apple harvest is going on and the crop looks to be awesome. I love apples and enjoy them in many ways, but my favorite is the apple pie. I'm not a pie maker myself but I dabble with apple breads and crisps. When I want a traditional apple pie I drive to Lymans Orchard and purchase of of theirs. They have a pie that's loaded with fruit. They bake them to perfection, and they are not to sweet. Apple pie must have a tartness to it, and not be full of thickeners like cornstarch...do you agree?

I like my apple pie cold right out of the fridge. But room temp with some ice cream would be OK.

A Frank Pepe pie....pizza Naples style. A thin crust, fresh plum tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil. I like a light charred crust, some like it slightly darker.

This is my BCT sandwich. The B is for bacon, the C is for cucumber, and the T is for tomato. The cucumber is chopped and so is the tomato...bacon is crisp and when you don't have the bread, you improvise and use a hot dog roll. Have a great weekend friends....

  1. Good morning Alan, My idea of a wonderful Saturday morning b'fst. A leftover slice of Friday night's pizza, stored overnight at room temp and eaten at room temp. So good "it'll make your brains fall out".

John I like your Saturday breakfast. Leftover pizza should never be eaten cold, room temp is good. Also don't reheat in microwave...

  2. Personally, I like my apple pie sweet and my pizza deep dish, but your BCT combination is making my mouth water. :=)

Bill mildly sweet can be OK but some of them are like applesauce runny and sweet. Deep dish is fine.

  4. Hi Alan
Those look so good, particularly the apple pie. Recently we have been enjoying apple crumble my wife has made with apples from my fathers’s allotments - he has three varieties: the classic Bramley, Worcester Pearmain and Cox’s Orange Pippin.
This afternoon we are going to be spoiled with a three course meal courtesy of my youngest son. Part of his school homework is to cook a meal for the family and design a menu for the courses! He has chosen garlic breadsticks, spaghetti bolognese and vanilla cheesecake - I can’t wait!!!!

Wow your menu for dinner sounds fabulous. Nice that your youngest is taking on the task. I tried the link and is does not work. But I did find several others on Potto Beck and found them interesting.

  8. It is hard to beat a Pepe pizza. Bev and I got a clam pie recently in Manchester and it was the best. Sausage peppers and onions tonight for our supper tonight, Alan. Peppers and onions from our garden taste mighty good.

George the BCT was improvised. I had no lettuce, nor did I have proper bread...it worked OK that day.

  11. Google is working again, amazing. Anyway the pie looks delicious. Sue just made one with raspberries and Grenadier cooking apples from the orchard. I should have photographed it but we ate it... it was good though. Regards, John

  12. Do you use lard, butter or both for your crust, which looks very good, BTW.
