Just passing some stuff along......
While out one day I spotted this hawk. He appeared to be taking in the goings on along the path. As I got closer I noticed a black band around it's neck. He didn't seem to be in any type of discomfort so I thought the band was some type of transmitter. As I walked closer the band looked very much like one of those hair bands women where. Closing in for a better photo the hawk departed. I had hoped that no harm was going to fall upon him.
Several days later I saw what appeared to be the same hawk minus the neck collar. I hope it was the same bird and all is well.
A lovely river I manage to get to several times a year. I would frequent it more often only it's location is in a tough location of Connecticut. The traffic can be a nightmare on a good day.
The river has some beautiful pools and these pools are home to wild browns and brook trout. On this day fishing was slow but the two hookups I had came to hand. A well known artist and author loves this river and after spending time here I can understand why.
Lovely river Alan. Would love to fish those pools with my Tenkara.

Bill that lovely river produced a 22" brown. That would be a great catch on a tenkara rod.
I was out with a friend Tuesday and we saw a lot of wood ducks and sandhill cranes. In fact he mentioned that the actual catching of fish is only a small part of trout fishing.
ReplyDeleteBill, join us in the Driftless sometime for great Tenkara fishing.
David,
DeleteUsed to fish the Driftless when we lived in SE WI. Beautiful area.

David there's so much more to fly fishing then catching fish. Stop-Look and Listen
Looks like Spring has sprung in Connecticut. From the looks of these photo's, I see a great Summer coming.

Mark only a few bits of winter lurking about. We are now entering the season of hatches, flowers, and relaxing evenings be it on the stream or on the porch.
Another great day and report, Alan. This might be your best winter into spring fishing I have seen since I have started reading Small Stream Reflections. I was glad to see that hawk got rid of that band around its neck.

Sam it has been my best March ever. March has always been unkind to me but after the first 10 days of the month it has been great. I was glad he was able to loose that collar.
Hi Alan,
ReplyDeleteI am working away from home in Scotland at the moment with very limited access to fishing - despite the proximity of a couple of rivers and some fine weather, time has simply not been on my side so your posts have provided some relief. I have one week left 'North of the Border' then I will have two weeks off before I start my next project - fingers crossed that I will be able to make up for lost time. I look forward to your next posts.
Thanks
Alistair

Alistair there are times when it can't be helped. That seems to make the time we do get on the stream so much more precious. Hang in there mate.
Well, ...they extended ice fishing season here until the end of April. *sigh*

ReplyDeleteAbsolute beautiful river, how often do you fish it-----just wondering if the hawk is helping himself to a few brook trout for a meal. Thanks for sharing

Bill I generally fish this river maybe 5 times a year. I'm sure the hawk likes trout.
Well done Alan! Nice to see that river healthy
