The fly is the Takayama Sakasa Kebari...it's basically a thread body, which has a red thread head. There is a collar of peacock and the hackle is hen pheasant. Although a tenkara fly I find it fishes very well with conventional fly rods.
These Asters are still in bloom and add brightness to the wild countryside.
This impressive guy was the best of the day. I cast the fly into a smooth pool. I saw the fly sink. As I retrieved it I twitched it in an upward motion. I saw the fly's wing open and close as it moved through the water. Suddenly the wild one busted up off the bottom and nailed the fly. Man was he beautiful. He is what I like to refer to as a "black mouth brookie" The photo does not depict just how gorgeous he was. There is a slight kype that I'm sure will be enhanced as the fall progresses.
A fitting treat for a fine day in "brook trout forest".....
The Autumn woods of New England are the enchanted forest of lore with the most beautiful fish on the planet living in their waters. We are blessed to live here Alan.

Dean enchanted indeed. There is truly no better place then the northeast/New England come Autumn.
Grea colors on the asters and the trout. I hated Reese's peanut butter cups as a kid but like them now.
ReplyDeleteMore rain again today. The woods sure are green and the streams are flowing well.

Shawn Reese's are like fine scotch it's an acquired taste. Some heavy rain overnight should make for a wonderful weekend of fishing.
Things were certainly looking good this morning!
DeleteShawn mid-day also...
DeleteEvening too!

ReplyDeleteI never get tired of viewing those beautiful brook trout you land.
It was 52 degrees in Jasper this morning, got to love this weather. Frost will soon be in the forecast, and another year will over before we realize it. Thanks for sharing

Bill 52 that is quite cool, get your flannel out. Our first frost comes around mid October, looking forward to it.
Alan, that fly is one of my favorites for late summer. Beautiful fish!

Tom it's the start of the fall season, and the brookies will be even more aggressive and this is the perfect fly to bring that out. I am tying them on a #10 hook as you said, and I have tied a few in a yellow body as well as orange.
No. 10, why so big Alan? 12 is about as large as like for stream trout.

John I find my hookup rate is better with the larger hook.
