The first photo is of a group of fly tyers that are perhaps the best in the world. These fly tyers are in many places recognized as the best soft hackle, flymph, and spider tyers. Photo courtesy of Ray Tucker.

Btk Trt, nice assortment of photos. I really like the bomber. It looks like a non-tradional or a variant tie, which in my book is perfect. Sometimes at least for me, the traditional patterns work so well, I'm/we're afraid to change it up. That bushy dark brown hackle covered shade of brilliant orange and deer/elk hair tail looks like a brookie vacuum. Nice post....Phil

Phil his rendition of the bomber is one I to like. He told me he tied it with the materials he had. And a brookie vacuum it is.
Good morning! Glad you liked the bomber; it was (as you might suspect) inspired by Alan and his wonderful blog.
DeleteAlan is correct: I tied using what I had (and am tempted to buy calf tail because it is a beautiful material). That is elk in the tail, grizzly hackle (Orvis), orange rabbit fur, and Hareline Para Post Wing material. Best to you, and tight lines!
Love the first photo. And the thing is, every single person in that photo (those that are still with us) will gladly talk to you, answer all your questions, and fill your head with knowledge. That's an All-Star cast.

Mike that is a special group of guys for sure. They offer free flowing information just for the asking. I know you recognize many of them from the Flymph Forum...
G'Day Alan,
ReplyDeleteNew Year resolution---remember to take camera/phone on fishing trips!

Steve the camera is a wonderful item when out and about. Even when not fishing we pass so many interesting subjects along the way.
I still have not recieved your mailing address. Email me with it at uppahdam@aol.com
I really like the Flymph Forum photo, quite the group of fly tying luminaries there! All of the photos are great, per usual!

Kevin I bet you also recognize many of them from the Flymph Forum. A-1 group of feather tyers.
Hi Alan
ReplyDeleteI think the consensus is going with the 'Flym Forum' photograph and (having been a member for several years now) second Mikes comments about the helpfullness and openess of those folks on that platform.
Take care & stay safe

Alistair, "Bishthefish"....correct me if I'm wrong. A fine group of individuals.
Great reminders to visit the Adirondacks and that it has been more than 30 years since I last fished for or caught a Great Lakes steelhead.

Shawn the Adk's are a brookie hot spot, but you need to where and when. The steelhead have been absent from my line since 2006. We went there in December and I froze my a## off. But the fishing was super.
Alan
ReplyDeleteAwesome images, I have a feeling that the Bomber fly will be a success for you and I warm water fishing this season---the first image makes me feel right at home not because of the flying tying expertise of these guys, but relating to the bluejeans----which is my go-to pants most of the time now!! thanks for sharing

Bill Art did a great job with his bomber variant. Jeans are a part of my wardrobe today. They feel so good. I also love pajama pants and live in them all day long many times.
