  1. Nice shot Alan, when did you take it? I would have expected to see a lot more ice.

  2. Alan... could you share a recipe on those Grey-Ghost flies please...?

nice winter shot....and ive fished in that exact spot.....it was like ..."fishing in a barrel".....so many fish....they were even crushing my rod-tip.if you tapped the surface.....I could've almost netted them....there were so many fish....I think they "stock" the farmy just a little too much....but still a great fishery for beginners...

  3. Looks OK to me if you don't mind stomping in a little snow.

Wow, I really wish I could fish that place. How deep is the middle section of the river? I know from fishing our tailrace here that most of it is non wading out in the middle sections. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks.
You can wade it at most times, I don't. I'll fish the sides.

  6. Brk Trt, I've driven by that exact spot several times in my past & kept in in the back of my mind. The Farmington is on my list of Trial fly fishing spots for 2014. I'm a mass resident, so the Ct fishing license is a little pricey, though if I purchase it early enough in the season & use it a bunch it figures out to be chump change. Thanks for the photo reminder & letting us share your thoughts............Phil

    1. DRYFLYGUY,
      Thanks.
It's a very popular run. That river will fish good most of the year, so the cost of a license will be worth it.
      Lots of wild browns.

  7. I'm with you, Alan. Stay out of the river if you can. Much safer that way and the fish usually work the banks anyway instead of out fighting the current. Great winter scene on the river and a shout out for your Brookie in the Header.

  9. Beautiful photo! A lot of streams are still locked in ice in these parts, the fly rod might feel strange to me when I finally get to use it again.

The same is true here for the most part. It's been better the last week or so.

Dreams, oh so true. In my dream the trees now are green and the temperature is 70.

  11. I was just thinking that the river looks pretty good and almost thought about making the trip up then realized it was a 2 year old picture. Thanks for getting me all worked up for a minute. That's a great little spot and one of my all time favorites - probably because I had one of my best days dry fly fishing there when I was first starting out fly fishing.

  12. Passinthru Outdoors,
    Thanks.
That spot holds memories for a lot of us Jim. Hitchcock use to put a lot of fish in there for the Derby.
