Success...back form Pennsylvania.

My son and I returned Tuesday evening from a three day deer hunt in Pennsylvania. It was a hunt that will go down as one of the better ones in recent memory. We were both successful in filling our tags, and were rewarded with a fine harvest. I am getting around to reading your posts and will get to them all. For now the work begins of processing the deer.

This will be on Wednesday's menu. Sufrite, which is an Italian specialty.

  1. Wow!

    BT,
Have another question for you. There is a particular small stream i go to once in a while. Once in a blue moon i have caught brown/brookie, Went there yesterday and skunked as usual for that place. There are alot of plunge pools in it. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. Thinking that maybe i'm spooking the fish. How far away from the plunge do you normally stay?
    Thanks,
    Cliff

    1. cphaneuf,
      Thanks.
Cliff, this time of year with colder water temps the trout may not be holding in these plunge pools. You may want to try slower deeper runs and pools for they will hold trout.
But fish all the water for you never know.
I fish most of the time downstream in these pools.

  2. I can say that I have never had heart, I have wanted to try it though, How different is it from the rest of the neat on a deer?

    1. Bill Thomas,
      Thanks.
Bill its flavor is a bit milder than the rest of the meat on a deer. It can be a bit chewy also, but so delicious.

  3. Some friends of mine gave me elk heart one time. I thought it was meatloaf. That said, you can have my piece. Glad you're back Alan.

It's so peaceful out there in the woods, and then a deer comes along.
      Good luck buddy.

  5. Well, Alan, obviously you have more outdoor talent than just when you have a fly rod in your hand..........................
Congratulations on your successful hunt and I look forward to sharing some of your visual "meals" with you.
