It's Near My Friends
The white flag is up. I'm ready. It has been a long time. Change is on the horizon. Oh welcome. As the days get longer there is a feeling that we have turned the corner and better days are near. I long for those milder days clear streams and rising trout. Those days where wet wading actually feels good. When you see sulphurs on the water. The excitement as the fly drifts and a fish rises. Those days where if one fish misses your offering another will grab it readily. Those days when streams come alive, and the banks are lush with green. When you are never alone even when no one is there. When birds sing they have a joyous meaning. Oh yes my friends those days when I can savor a cup of coffee in my t-shirt. Each day brings me closer. And with each day I look forward to fresh new season that holds the promise of being my best.

Alan,
ReplyDeleteThis post above is absolutely wonderful and befrocked with hope eternal! Thank you for bringing us bit of joy this morning! It makes me feel better as I crawl out from under a particular gray (bloa) winter season with rain being a constant. Your optimism is refreshing and of course we want full reports, as always, of your amblings around the countryside!
This is great stuff Alan!

Doug we have snow in the forecast, but it does not bother me for I know better days are close. Yes I understand the term "bloa" To the dancing mayflies.
I know that feeling .. it's almost mystical, like being re-born.

Mark right now I would enjoy some rain. At least you don't have to shovel it, and rain doesn't hang around.
Oh, how I want to believe you, Alan; so, so very much. They closed so many roads up here yesterday because of wind blown snow that my wife was trapped in Fort Kent for the night.

Mike that area where you live probably won't see signs of spring until summer. I feel sorry for you, but you are obviously a determined Mainer. Be well.
Yep, days are getting longer & I can almost smell the cut grass and hazy nights looking upstream for an evening rise. Nice post Alan.

The days are increasing, in a couple of weeks we switch to daylight saving time which gives an hour extra of daylight in the evening.

ReplyDeleteYou've just described perfectly what paradise on our favorite stream, tailrace and lake looks and feels like!!! Thanks for sharing

Bill I guess no matter where you live or what you may fish for the excitement of warmer days and rising fish is so welcomed.
It was here for a day today Alan. 60's and mostly sunny. Fish were eager and willing.

Bill I would love a 60 degree day. Mid thirties here but there are a few willing fish.
