Darter #1

Minnows a group of little fish that includes those darters and dace and a few others. We all have seen them in waters we fish be it be lakes ponds or flowing streams. They are at times speed demons in their attempts to flee and other times just seem to lie motionless. Their colors can range from just blah-bland to absolutely vibrant colors. Sometime just Google "dace and darters" or "minnows" and you'll will see color. But the minnow provides food for almost any fish that swims. Even small brook trout will attack a minnow that is actually to big to fit in it's mouth. And brown trout are what streamer flies were made for.
Here are a few streamers that represent those dace and darters that frequent our waters.

Mike I knew that orange was a good color choice for brookies. Now I must tie a few black streamers. There's is a fly I tie-fish called Cotton's Black fly that is a producer.

Mark while that may be true, these are fishing flies. And it's OK to compliment my flies and it's appreciated.
On the one hand, simple ties. On the other, complex ties with a deep heritage. I admire the skills required to tie these mini-masterpieces. Amazing, really. Where can this self-published book be found?

The book was published in 2001 by Ken Thayer who hails from Schenectady NY. I have copy 187 out of 200 printed. It says in the book for copies contact Ken Thayer phone # 518 377-8122. It has 20 patterns listed with color photos. Many of the streamers were tied to fish ADK. waters.

Bill I fished a lake yesterday and I to used that fly. Two smallies about 10-12" took it and leaped to freedom.

Shawn the can be beautiful to what we seek. I'll admit I do not fish are the pretties, I have a lot of framed ones.
