The power of pure clean water is something we all need. The strength of such waters are especially important to me at this time....the weather this morning is a cold 33 degrees with a wind. As I look at the leaves being swept up off the ground I catch the beautiful sun breaking over the land. I need the sun to help move me to fish. I have to get out today and even if I don't catch a fish the effort and the attempt will do wonders for me.
The beautiful colors of the wild brookie are a god sent. To hold one is to be revitalized beyond words.
The "Stayner Ducktail"....perhaps this streamer will entice one today......
Hope you and everyone had a great Christmas. Brrrrrrookie. That lil fella is braving the cold, which will be with us for a while. Great photographs.

33 would feel like spring at the moment. Friday morning we had -14 below. Today wasn't as bad, the high was a balmy 20. I'm going to spend the next 4 months fishing vicariously through your posts, my waters are locked up tight.

Alan, I caught one of the stocked variety late yesterday, a rainbow with a bite mark on its head. Pretty sure it was the same fish I hooked a month ago judging by the distinctive mark. It hit a #16 bead head blue winged olive pattern. It felt good to have on and did me good. One other good hit that did not stay connected at the end of a drift. Maybe I will fish tomorrow for a little while.

ReplyDeleteWe have a balmy 6 degrees C (43 degrees F) today in Yorkshire. Despite the almost persistent rain since Friday, the little river Leven has kept a good fishable level, so a trip for winter grayling is planned for this afternoon. Hopefully a few fish as good looking as that little brookie will come to hand.

Many are cold but few are frozen. Even with a little ice in my guides, it has been a joy to find a fish or two on recent short outings. Thanks for sharing the words and photos.

ReplyDeleteI hope this Christmas was a festive one for you all. What a temp difference regions of the country can produce; we are feeling a warm 75 here today. All this week will be in the 70"s. I wish I could use these warm days to trout fish the Sipsey, but no such luck, heavy generation all week.

ReplyDeleteWe had some very beneficial rains here in the Ohio Valley on Christmas Day! It caused the water to run across the ground and into both of the ponds below my house! It has not rained this hard in nearly a year! I was glad to see it!

Doug the Stayner Ducktail worked better with browns..also a few bluegills. Rain is in short supply here, care to share. Looking at the temps in the near future and it's put a charge in me to either fish or hunt....
