Simple Ways

A small stream, flowing simple and free. This is a path I have taken, a path which means so much more today.

When I started this blog one of the main features was "The Simple Aspect To Fly Fishing". And I believe I've shown this type of fishing in the past posts.
Small streams are not complicated, nor are the wild trout that inhabit them. Food, shelter and cold clean waters are pretty much all that's required.
Over the past year I've come to enjoy this aspect of angling even more. Certain happenings in my life have taken place and they have made me look to the simple and important things in my life, for these I'm grateful beyond words.

So on your next outing instead of getting frustrated over what the trout are feeding on and being unable to pick the right fly from the hundreds in your fly boxes. Take a deep breath and look around,it's not complicated, just think of the simple wonders in your life.

Can it get any simpler, perhaps not. But it can get so much more complicated if we allow it to be.

Just think of the extras as a security blanket and leave them be.

  2. Life goes by too fast for it to be complicated. Simple is best.

  4. That's one of the things I love about fishing small streams, a few flies in a box and a couple of odds and ends in a pocket. No need for the vest with pockets on the pockets!

  6. Hi again Brk Trt!

I just commented on your previous post so I have some catching up to do. Really lovely pictures! Does the stream really look like that this time of the year? Here it's mostly white of snow and all streams are frozen over. Love this particular post of you. I fish with few flies too. Mostly I end up with the same fly on the tippet that I started with. Haven't changed even once. But I must confess that I always have a lot of flies with me. I just feel good having them even if I won't use them. Can't really explain.

Have fun fly fishing and enjoying the nature I certainly do that,

No that stream photo was taken in late spring.
It's perhaps a comfort to have an ample supply of various flies.

  12. Great post brk trt, fullfillment and enjoyment are what it's really about , it's too easy to put the burden of expectation, upon your shoulders making it more of a job than a passion .

I fish on occasion wee streams like those , and the satisfaction i get from catching the little trout which live in them , and actually in some cases just landing the fly on the water makes them all worthwhile, small stream trouting is just sooo appealing, and i'll certainly be spending a wee bit of time on some tiny streams this season. just over a fortnight before the trout season starts again here in scotland , cant wait!
