Cabin Creek, Northern Lights and.....

We took a walk along Cabin Creek the other day just to see how things were holding up. The stream was at a level that was acceptable for this time of year. A well shaded stream with temps in the mid sixties. We observed several spooked streaks, and even a rise. In one very gnarly tangled mess where a deep pool was created I observed a brown of generous proportions lying in ambush. A fine prospect this fall should he decide to move from his security blanket.

The "Northern Lights" aka The Brook Trout.

Some work horses. These are trolling streamers. They are large flies that represent smelt. They can be trolled using a fly rod and sinking line, or with lead core line.

  1. Magnificent colors on that brookie! A stream or two that I fish have old deserted cabins on them as well and I always find it interesting to walk around the area and explore when I'm there. Kind of like looking through a window in time to a different era.

Just sitting there and wondering about the happenings of years gone by.

I wonder how much of a flood would it take to dislodge that trout from his hiding his place? I just wonder if quality trout spent the biggest portion of their lives in the same place. Thanks for sharing

A few good inches of rain will get these guys on the move again. As far as location and how far they move I don't know.

  10. Hi Brk Trt!
Nice small stream you have captured in your photos. The "Northern Light" really is beautiful. I hope you get a chance at the Big Brown Trout later on. Even though it's so satisfying just to see them and knowing they are there.
    Have fun at Cabin creek,

If I don't catch that brown, it won't be from not trying.
