Monday dry fly browns.

I fished a few hours on the Farmington yesterday afternoon. Kirk joined me and we fished a series of runs, riffles and pools. It produced a few salmon parr, but no trout. We then moved up river to another location. I managed to catch what was probably the smallest brown ever. This fish was 3 inches at best. Kirk was fishing a run and hooked some nice fish. He soon became a bit frustrated at the way the trout seemed to shake the fly. I tried to fish above him in some fast water, but noticed another angler working the run. I climbed out and told Kirk I was going to drive further up river. He said he would meet me up there later.

When I arrived and as I began to close my window the window refused to move. The window was stuck in the open position and would not close. Good thing it was not raining.

It was in this area where I had a productive few hours. The shadows were working in, there were a few flies about but very few rises. I was armed with a size 16 dry fly and that worked like a charm.

Several nice browns came to hand. Many more rose to the fly but I was slow on the draw.

It was another wonderful few hours on the river.

The Farmington is my kind of tailrace; I'm glad to see you are giving it a lot of attention. Those are some nice browns you bought to hand. thanks for sharing

Right now it's the best for trout because of the cold water and good flows. BUT the small streams are always on my mind.

  7. BT,
I'm in my thirties now, but if i'm lucky enough to make it to retirement age I would seriously consider moving close to the Farmy. Been there a handful of times, but never had much luck, just didn't know what i was doing. I know its loaded with native browns and brookies, which is so awesome. Will this be the last year that you catch salmon? I know here in MA the federal program got cut and i think the state program relies on it so this is the last year of stocking here. Just got back from Sebago and managed to get out to a small stream near the state camp ground one morning before family woke up. Didn't even get a hit. Not sure if there was any brookies in the stream, but its always flowing, and it was pretty cold. Anyways it was fun trying-Cliff

I don't know where you live now, but that's a move that would be nice. The Farmy can indeed be finicky at times. CT. has stopped stocking salmon, but the streams and rivers are full of previous stockings. There was some talk of CT continuing stocking for put and take recreation. I've never fished Sebago, but there is a river that feeds it and has a salmon population. Enjoy your time on the waters when given the time.

  8. Beautiful water. Beautiful trout. You might not believe this, but just yesterday the motor for my driver's side window went on the fritz.

There ought to be a law that they break in the closed position.

  9. A good day on the river will ease your mind from any troubles, including crazy window motors.
