You might find this interesting.

The July/August 2014 issue of Eastern Fly Fishing has two fine articles on fly fishing for brook trout. One article takes place in the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine. I have considerable experience on these waters and I can tell you it's well worth the read. The next article is written by Mike Valla and covers a wilderness area of the Adirondack mountains of New York. Mike's article puts focus on pond fishing for brook trout in the manner of times gone by. Pick up a copy.

This is a fly that's not talked about much in the blogs, forums and magazines, but I have a feeling it is fished more than talked of. The Lime Trude is a fly that I fish and most times when I do it will bring one to hand. There is another version of this fly it's the Royal Trude.

Oh those mountains. We spent a beautiful day in these northern mountains. My friends let me tell you there is beauty in them mountains, and brook trout. Stories in a future post.

  1. Fly fishing a pond for brookies sounds like a tradition I'd have liked to experience. Thanks for sharing. That fly looks like the Wulff family?

    1. Michael Curry,
      Thanks.
I've only did it a few times, early season. Some of the biggest brook trout are found in ponds.
A very close resemblance, accept for the slant wing.

  2. I've been in the Siamese Ponds wilderness a few times but never fished any of the ponds. It is a huge track of land and very remote.

    1. Mark,
      Thanks.
The article states it's a beautiful place. The remoteness of will keep it that way.

Fishing for trout in a pond setting for me would be somewhat like fishing for super size bluegill and that is fun. I am impressed with Trude. Thanks for sharing

Pond trout fishing is the only way to go for some folks. This part of the US is loaded with such places.

  4. Hi Mike, the article looks interesting and I'll try to pick up a copy of the magazine. The Trude is used a lot in Colorado. I tied them in a variety of colors, but lime and the royal are the best.

  6. Some years ago I gave up on that magazine because of subscription problems, but on your recommendation, and the articles on the Rangeleys and the Siamese Ponds, I'm gonna see if can't snag a copy at the newsstands. Thanks!

      Thanks.
Walt I don't subscribe, most magazines have to much advertising. But I do look at them at the rack and when I find something that interests me I make the purchase.
This one I think you'll like.
