Keep These Day's Coming

Good morning folks. Tuesday morning as I sat in the kitchen enjoying a breakfast of leftovers from 3 prior meals and a good cup of coffee, Jeanette said to me today looks to be a nice one, why don't you go fishing. I replied OK probably only for a few hours, I should be back early. It was but a short while and the car was headed, with me in it, to the stream. The sun was already working and it felt nice. The days temps were to be in the mid forties but that was fine. I arrived at the dirt pull off where I was to park, funny it was deep snow covered only two weeks ago.

The water was perfect, with the slow melt and the lack of any heavy rain it was crystal clear all the way to the bottom. Walking in I was able to see some signs of "real Spring"...there were skunk cabbage popping up and saying "hello", yes it's finally here.

The area along the stream is showing signs of bare ground, making the walk alongside a bit more enjoyable. The fishing was also becoming more interesting with the fish showing more interest in the flies being presented. This was my best day out in terms of hits, hookups and fish to hand since last November.

Browns like this guy were taking my offerings. They were in the normal places one would find fish at this time of year.

It was wonderful to sit along the stream and have a cup of coffee. To be able to actually drink it without your hands shaking from cold was a thing of beauty.

I saved the best for last. In this stretch of stream, perhaps maybe 15 yards long I was able to fool 3 fish into taking the fly. In my mind I'm sure they were not the same fish, for They were hooked and on for a period. In the swirl of water next to the log, as I lifted the line up to make another cast a brown took the fly right at the surface. He was a strong fighter and headed deep for cover. The little glass 3wt did its job. I can't say enough about the performance of that rod.

The last fish of the day. This log seeking handsome fellow was at hand, making for a wonderful outing.

  3. I do so very much enjoy reading your blog. Perhaps I will be able to find an hour or two this year to actually put a line in the water. Never any expectations of actually catching anything but for me that's not the point!

I truly hope you do. One needs time just to see life as it should be.
If I don't catch a fish I'm still very happy, as I'm sure you'll be.

  4. Alan - very lovely browns! I saw some shunk cabbage poking through the ground on a walk in the woods last week. Spring is coming!

  7. Alan, I don't think anyone photographs those lovely fish as well as you. 60s and 70s most of the week and while I'm tying this the temperature is 32 and snowing. Thank goodness the weekend is looking better.

Another beautiful stream yielding some color trout, and it actually looks like you guys have actually broke the grip of winter. I see you are using my awesome combo. My wife told me that Christmas may be the time to acquire my combo. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks.
Bill there is more and more ground showing. The snow is hanging on in certain places but it is really Spring now.
That combo is a small stream anglers dream. If I didn't see the rod on sale for such a great price I would probably have let it go. As for the reel I had to sell off a couple items to acquire it. All well worth it.
