Summer...what I'm doing.

Well folks the summer has arrived. The heat here in Connecticut is locked in place and will be around another day or so. The last time I fished was Friday and probably won't fish a stream until mid week. What I have been doing is taking care of my peppers which are doing well on the deck farm, and reading, in this case re-reading. Kathy Scott's book "Brook Trout Forest" has so many wonderful lines and thoughts, that they are worth a second and third look. Some of these lines I'll share with you in future posts.

I have also been doing a little fly tying. The streamers which are well known have been scaled back and what came out of the vise are "mini" variations of those streamers. The streamers are tied on Mustad's C53S hooks in size 14. My next outing I'll run them through a few likely places and see what happens.

The "Black Ghost"

The "Black Nose Dace"

The "Royal Coachman"

Try to stay cool my friends.

  1. Good way to spend some warm summer day's Alan. Love those little streamers. The little black nose dace in particular is a really pretty fly. In low, clear waters, I can see that working like a charm...
    Have a super day,
    Will

Will, AC cranking and bobbin a winding. The BND did take to the small hook pretty well. I think it will be christened in the north country this week.

They do pick up on that pattern for sure. Even a Royal Wulff in January.

  4. I can only imagine how absorbing the book must be. Great for days when it is too hot too fish!
Really nice looking "smaller" classic streamers, Alan. I can see "Paydirt" written all over them.

Mel she is a wonderful writer. The book is put together like a journal.
We will see if they earn their keep in the fly box.

  5. Nice flies Alan...I can't see how the brook trout could resist those little morsels. I'm in need of a new book to take along with me on an upcoming family trip, that one sounds like a winner. I'll have to try and see if I can order one from the local bookstore before we leave.

Peter I tied a few that were not so pretty. But even those will catch fish.
