After several day's of rain, snow and just pure gloomy conditions yesterday was a blessing. We had the chance to fish for a few hours and the day was spectacular, not in the sense how much we caught but where and under what conditions. The first photo is a vernal pool, several of these were spotted. I love looking at the life that abounds here.
The sun was strong this early April day, the warmth and brightness felt good. Bright and sunny also puts the fish on alert and that may have kept the hook-ups to a minimum.
For me I enjoyed a day out along a beautiful stream. I had the pleasure of meeting a family of 5, mom, dad, a lovey little young girl and 2 frisky dogs. A wonderful chat took place and I gave a fly casting demonstration to the little girl who was quite interested.
I did manage to bring one lovely brown to hand...very strong and on a surface fly. Care to guess what fly it was.....
Today is supposed to be a carbon copy of yesterday, perhaps I might step out for a walk.......
I think that's the biggest stream I've ever seen you fish. The young ones are the future of fishing. Glad she showed interest.

Mark that river is flowing nicely now because of the snow melt and recent rains. It will settle in when June comes. I love when kids ask about fishing.
Alan, lovely stream and nice to see one of its life forms. Kudos for demonstrating a little fly casting. That young lady just may be a big fan of the future!

Chris one very good point about small streams is they will rise quick and also recover quick. A nice gravel bottom also helps.

There is something magical about those first warm and wonderful days just after a nasty winter! It really gets your mojo going and it seems you have found the perfect place and the perfect day or two to be out! It was good to hear what you did for this young lady! Mel is right! You have positively affected the future of this sport by taking a few minutes to show her the ropes! Great job Alan!

Doug I remember teaching my kids to fish, then my grand-kids. Although they all don't fish today enough have, but the memories of fishing together remain.
You must have had your stealthy outfit on Alan..hard to be not seen on those bright sunny days with no tree cover..

Mike I'd like to take credit for being stealthy...but catching that one fish was a bit of luck. There are some shadows on a stream where you can have some success.

I've only had fiddleheads once. They were steamed and dressed with oil. I really didn't care for them. How do you fix them?
Cooked very lightly in oil then served with a "francaise" sauce. As you may have heard me say before about food "so good it'll make your brains fall out.

Beautiful stream and wild brown, Alan. Nice that you ran into that family and could show the little girl how fly fishing is done. You never know, she might take it up some day because of you.
