A Meeting....

The "Fish-Nut" is up from Florida for a week or so and we decided to wet a line and try to take a few brookies. The "Fish-Nut" is actually Kirk a fellow small stream addict when not throwing flies in the salt. We chose a stream we were familiar with and by 8:30 were already fishing. The stream was perfect, the weather ideal and hopefully the brook trout were hungry.

It did not take long for Kirk to hook-up. Using a Picket Pin wet a nice brookie slammed it and he was on the board. That Picket Pin proved to be the fly of the day for Kirk.

Snarly places always hold fish...catching one is the problem.

After going a long spell without a fish I finally hooked up. The fly was a Sakasa Kebari. It seem to work well for me at times. Boy did I miss out on a monster brown today on that fly.

Fishing curves and bends. Places that hold fish.

Kirk with a real CT. wild jewel.

An undercut bank. One of these days I'm going to get on my belly and find out how far it cuts underneath.

My only fish of the day that took a dry fly. I had several fish in the course of the day rise but this one took the Bomber and graciously allowed me to take it photo.

A great spring day with rewards coming in many ways.

  1. Fishing with good friends is always a treat. A Picket Pin! I tied a dozen for a friend last year but it's been a long time since I fished with one. I'll have to put some in my box. Beautiful pictures, Alan.

The Picket Pin was a fly that came to be in my box because of an outing I had one Sept. fishing Richardson lake in Maine. Landlocks just crushed that fly. Since that day it's got a slot in my box.

  4. Great post Alan.
Always good to fish with friends, especially if you haven't seen each other for a while. It's a good time to swap stories and catch up on gossip as well as have a bit of a friendly competition going.
    Thanks

Alistair, those fishing stories about the big one that got away are always in the conversation. Enjoyable times for sure.

Glad you was able to help Kirk have a successful trip. I have a feeling there could be some quality trout under those cut banks. Thanks for sharing

Bill Kirk may have been a bit rusty but that soon wore off. Undercuts, special places.
