Just out and about....

Poking around last weekend visiting a couple of streams that in the past have been good to me. They also are kind in a certain way that helps the parts of my body that no longer work as well as they did. The sun was out and so was the wildlife. A few very skittish whitetails were observed dining on the new vegetation. The stream holds both wild brook and brown trout. The browns tend to dominate but every so often a nice brookie will come to hand.

Do you ever get that feeling someone's watching you..look at this guy checking the goings on.

Bottle necks within the stream always are a good place to spend a little time. Trout can be found most anywhere. A lot of water to fish thoroughly.

This silvery brown was found in mid riffle. The fly was taken aggressively.

Peppered fried pork skins, a great snack.

The biggest of the day. He was also very silvery, with brilliant red spots, as well as being very strong.

  1. Nice trip Alan. That was a great pic of the bullfrog. Trout here are getting scarce. Just two quick pulls last week Friday with nothing to hand.

Bill that little guy was intent on what I was doing.
I fished yesterday and had one on briefly. The temperature swings are having an effect on trout feeding.

  4. Things are greening up nicely in your neck of the woods! The fish were gorgeous. Their coloring looks more like salmon parr than brown trout. I've never tried a pork rind... I'll have to give them a shot.

You'll love the pork skins. Walmart carries the brand I like best.

Amazing how those colorful brook trout lay still while you take their picture. The rainbow I land on the Sipsey, are not as cooperative. The frog image has to be one of my favorites of all your images you have shared over the years. I know I've told you this before but I would differently have to frame that one!! Great post thanks for sharing

Bill most times if you set your hand in the water before and then draw the fish over it they will be much more comfortable. That frog never moved he just kept on watching me...

  6. Hi Alan,

Those are some bonnie brownies you landed there.......

That last fellow is an absolute brute - I bet not much in his stream will be able to past that gaping maw!!!!! Love the second picture of the stream, in my minds eye I am already planning my cast in that riffle.

Pork crackling / scratchings, as we call them over here, are a favourite I occasionally indulged in (even though I should avoid the fat and salt!!!!). Another favourite is a Pork Pie with a hot water crust pastry (good for the soul terrible for the blood pressure!).

    Stay safe

I'll bet your just about as excited to cast a fly as a child on Christmas morning.
They are called cracklings here also the difference is they have the skin attached they are really crispy. I make a pork pie, a French Canadian style...delicious.
