A Saturday, nice weather and a wonderful trek along some streams. Jeanette and I walked along two streams today. The one constant was not another soul to be seen. I had not been to either one of these streams since last fall. No fly gear just observations. I will fish both of these streams tomorrow and I'm very excited, imagine a grown man in his 6th decade getting excited like a kid.
Well I went home and to ease the pressure I tied up a fly that I will christen tomorrow.
Hares ear and peacock with a twist of ginger.
For supper, a grilled rib eye steak with onion rings.
I was only able to eat half the remainder will be cut up and added to a lovely salad of bitter greens and enjoyed tomorrow.
I've seen the symptoms. My grandfather can get quite childish if good fishing is in the forecast! I just hope there is never a day when that feeling dies.

It's in our blood, there's nothing like it.

Theresa, you have figured it out.
I get excited way too easily these days. The steak just about did me in.

Trying to finish the steak almost did me in.
Beautiful looking stream and can't wait to see the wild jewels you pull out of them. In the meantime great looking steak!

I'm sure there are a few in there, now if they are on the feed that indeed will be a plus.
I finally had an extremely exciting fishing day today myself. First one of the year. How do you fish your soft hackles Alan, mostly dead drift or do you ever pulse them through the lies as well?
ReplyDeleteKlags,

Good for you buddy.
I dead drift them, a lot of strikes come when the fly stops at the end of the drift and hangs for a second. As I start my retrieve the slam it. I do start as stop the fly at various locations through out the stream.
I turned 59 on April 26. A few hours fishing on a local small creek was planned but the pouring rain said no. Spent the day with my wife and son, consuming some of my presents--sherbert flying saucers and chocolate fish. I've enjoyed sherbert flying saucers since I was a little kid in England. I'm now a big kid in Australia and still enjoy them. I, too , get excited about fishing a new water, a fly or sherbert flying saucers! I hope that joy and excitement never fades. Stream, fly and steak with onion rings--all look delicious.

Steve.

A lot has gone down in 59 years, but you still remember the better things from your youth and enjoy them today.
I to hope the joy and excitement remains for you.
I should have mentioned that in OZ we are about 24 hours ahead of the US, so I was writing on the 27th OZ time.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Steve.
I understand buddy.
DeleteWow! Those streams look in great shape and glad you are enjoying the early spring after a long hard winter! BTW- that steak looks great, there wouldn't be any leftovers if that was on my plate!
ReplyDeleteMark,

All we need now are some steady temps and its dry fly time. Mark the leftovers were great in a salad.
Alan
ReplyDeleteWhen one stops getting excited about fly fishing, then they can pull up the rocking chair. In fact as I am typing this I am seeing trout take those hackles on our tailrace you will be sending me soon; the excitement is building! Heavy rains here has kept me off the tailrace and I don't think I will be back fishing there until next week. Thanks for sharing
