Off to try and bring a brook trout to hand. This stream is the recipient of water from a stream known as the "stream by the red barn" I did a post on it several years ago. While I did not fish the red barn stream today I did fish the brook it flows into.
It was in this junction pool that I was able to fool a fish.
These guys were into wet flies.
The second stream was a classic tumble down freestone in the New England style. Lots of plunge pools, laurel and hemlocks. And in a few of these pools were a few willing brook trout.
Now you know there has to be a brookie in a place as such. As a matter of fact there were several. Only one that made it to hand. He was a very spunky fighter.
I only fished this stream to this point. There is a lot more to go.
just beautiful streams and falls but i love the red barn scene. :)

Theresa that is such a peaceful place.
That is a beautiful tumbling stream. Its residents seem to have especially orange fins.

They're all brook trout, but they are all different.
Couldn't have said it better. Take RML's last post for example. Some of those brookies are almost black!
DeleteThose are text book brooky waters.

We are very fortunate to have some wonderful wild trout streams in Connecticut, as you well know.
Looks like it wad a perfect outing......I wish my first outings had been as fruitful. The trout don't seem to be biting much.

Chris it was enjoyable. The trout seem to be looking at all things from the bottom. The dry bite has been real slow.
Now that' s a place I would like to visit, especially that pool.

You and a few others. Sorry I can't tell.
The waterfalls over that slab of rock are just epic. They look very "catskills," I love it. I imagine there were some trophy fish deep down in there.

The stream has some trout hiding places. The stream has some larger brookies and I'm sure there is one in that pool.
I'll just have to keep on trying.
Gorgeous Brk Trt!

Beautiful spot. You would also like the very unusual bridge that crosses the stream.
Some nice water for sure. I really like the picture of the red barn!

Sir most are within 35 minutes of home.
Beautiful trout from some beautiful little creeks for sure. I need to start planning a small stream trout trip , as much as I like big rivers ,driftboats and throwing big streamers I'll always have a place in my heart for those little creeks and the fish they hold. Your posts always make me want to grab the two weight and head out to those little streams.

Jeff, these little waters are my life. I'll toss a fly on a big river but my love is the small stream and the wild trout that live there.
Alan
ReplyDeleteJust when I think I have seen the best of the best streams you fish, you show us another even better; is the stream by the red barn close to a neighborhood? Thanks for sharing

Bill there are many fine streams in CT. Problem a lot of them run through private lands.
This is a rural stream. There are a few homes about and we have access to this one.
