Old Text, Humpback Trout...and Streamers

While in Rangeley, Maine one year I saw this book in a small book store I was in. At first it didn't look like much of a book to read. As I browsed through it it got more interesting as each page was turned. I purchased the book, and it went in the stack of reading material we had a the camp we stayed at.

One rainy evening I sat down to read it, and I enjoyed it. It's full of history from the "old days" in the Rangeley region. The original book was published in 1876.

Some of it's pages

A few Rangeley Featherwing Streamers.

  5. Looks like you tied some flies befitting of the history and heritage of the book itself.

    Well done!

  6. Thanks for the great reading tip. The history involved with trout fishing is always so fascinating. Those streamers are really eye catching, and fish catching I'm sure. Tight Lines.

When reading old books I enjoy all of the words that weren't in use at the time.

  8. I wonder if the old-timers that we see in the photos with long strings of killed trout or salmon realized that they were enjoying the end of the golden age of fishing? I for one freely admit that I am jealous..By the way Brk Trt..Lovely streamers!

  10. Did you tie the streamers? I came across an old book at a sale once. It has several plates of flies and is pretty interesting when concidering the time it was published. I should put it up in a post someday. The plates of the old flies are cool.
