"Cascade Stream"

Just outside the town of Rangeley, Maine is the little town of Sandy River Plantation, population 133. Coming down out of the mountain, Saddleback I believe, is a stream, not large but swift. It flows through a deep gorge creating many beautiful waterfalls. There is an abundance of fir trees and the smell can intoxicate. I have never fished the gorge area but have done so below.

One of the many deep pools along the gorge.
To commemorate this beautiful area I created a streamer which I believe captures the beauty of Cascade Stream.

"Cascade Stream"

Hook, Martinek Rangeley Streamer...Body, Cream Yarn...Tag and Rib, Flat Silver Tinsel...Throat, White Hackle followed by Blue Hackle...Wing, Two Dark Blue Hackles, followed by Two Light Blue Hackles...Shoulders, Peacock Breast Feathers...Cheeks, Jungle Cock.

Absolute gorgeous area, I would imagine that the brook trout there is just as beautiful as the pools along the gouge. The streamer colors are the perfect combo to parallel the beauty of the falls. Thanks for sharing

The photo of the water does not capture the real colors of the water, the streamer does.

Hopefully if I live long enough I might be able to fish a few.

  6. Gorgeous streamer for a gorgeous area! I visit Saddleback to ski, but have never gone in the summer. I will have to pay a summer trip there for brook trout fishing eventually.

The ski area has its ski trails named after Rangeley Streamers. One of my streamers was chosen for a trail..."Intimidator"

    3. Wow that's an awesome story! I know exactly which trail that is I ski it every year. I knew the trails were named after various flies from the rangeley area, but to think that one of your streamers was used is crazy! Fitting that such a great tyer is being represented on such a great, classic mountain.

  7. Wow, Alan, that looks like the holy grail of Tenkara streams to me (and small streams in general!) How lucky you are to have found such a spot!

I must fish there at some point. New item added to my bucket list :)

The layout reminds me of the small streams in Japan - the guys bring ropes and harnesses and climb up these gorges, sometimes swimming up the water when walking isn't an option. This looks like just such a place. Epic.
