Summer is upon us. But look what Spring gave us.

Kirk and I got together and selected a stream that we thought would fish well. We chose it because it might have handled the heavy rain we received the day before. Upon arriving I had seen a stream that was full to the bank with swirling waters and swift riffles. The only plus was the fact that the water was so clear. We made a decision to move to another section of the stream one that offered us smooth pools and kinder riffles and as it turned out that was the right call.

To use the word lush to describe the woodlands at this time is a gross understatement. So beautiful my friends.

It took a spell before I had my first hook-up. This healthy wild jewel took me to the roots and underwater branches several times before I managed to bring him to hand. Recognize the fly?

Kirk working a very fishy looking stretch. The brookies were where they shouldn't be and we figured that out in time.

Kirk with a fine one. A well proportioned specimen. A tribute to a pristine environment.

Another one on the same fly...which is?

Kirk and I split up, with him staying at the first stream. He was a bit wet and was going to go home in short time. I drove to another stream and I planned on fishing it for an hour or so.

It did not take long to hookup...these brookies preferring a different offering.

A broken down bridge, a dark and somewhat deep pool...let the fly drift, and guess what.

The last fish of the day and what a day it was...and guess what, it's raining today.

    2. Lovely water and trout, Alan. Thanks for sharing the day with us. Sorry, cant name the fly but it was the right one for the day. It's pouring rain here in my corner of OZ. No fishing today but no matter. I've got a heap of cooking and baking to do for a gathering of friends this evening--4 hour slow cooked brisket; bacon, cheese and mushroom pin wheels as well as a frittata of some sort. Coupled with the music we'll all be playing together, it should be a good night. Good friends, good food and shared music--a winning combination.
No stream fishing for me until September when the trout season reopens. I'll have to make do with joining you here on Small Stream Reflections. What an ordeal that will be! Thanks again Alan, I look forward to every new post as I'm sure many others do.
      Kindest Regards,
      Steve.

Steve what an awesome menu. Brisket is one of my favorite cuts. I do it in the oven with potatoes, carrots and lots of onions...so good. I know of your baking from previous posts. I hope your gathering is just what you want.
Your small stream fishing fix can be handled right here.

  3. Boy Alan, the brookies continue to look plump and well fed this wet year. Plenty of food getting dumped in from the rain. That one in the photo down below, what a tail!

Sam it has been fabulous this year. The rain is coming at the right intervals keeping the brookies plump and happy.

That brookie was caught a couple of years ago in the fall. That tail is way out of proportion compared to the rest of him. The thin body may have been the result of the spawn.

That bridge area would be a given for a hit every time you visit this stream. Those are some really quality brook trout taken. Thanks for sharing

Bill most times fishing that spot brings a strike. If you ever come across a spot like it by all means fish it.
