Breakfast foods are some of the best combinations going, simple eggs, bacon, sausage, kielbasa, and good bread with butter, and jan or preserves.
These foods can put you in a good frame of mind to start your day.
I also apply the same foods to umcomplicate a long day and relieve the stress. So many times Jeanette and I will have some of these for our evening meal, it is both satisfying and and comforting.
Give it a try sometime.
A scallion and cheese omlet, with whole wheat toast and butter
Crisp country bacon, kielbasa, toasted rye, and crusty italian bread toast.

ReplyDeleteOn the subject of food. When I was in the US the people I stayed with often made bisquites and gravy. Care to share your favorite recipe for this? I just never seem to get it right.

ReplyDelete3rd try is the charm...Ok...Here is one easy recipe for B&G...
ReplyDelete1. Buy the refrigerator biscuits...bake as directed.
2. In a deep fry pan or electric skillet...brown 1 lb of ground sausage. Drain grease and return to low heat on stove.
3. Add one softened 8 oz. cream cheese. Stir into sausage mixture until melted in...
4. Gradually add 1 C. milk into this mixture and blend...gradually add another 1/2 C milk and blend. As the gravy cooks, it thickens...So, you might need to add a little more milk until it is the thickness that you like. Lastly, add 1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning.
Wallah! Easy...I hope! You guys are the lucky ones that get to try my secret recipe!! It is a little different than most because of the cream cheese flavor...but, that is my favorite part...so there's one to try! Enjoy! ~ RD

ReplyDeleteThanks RD. That sounds yummy. The problem is that in my part of the world nobody knows what biscuits are and we certainly don't get to buy pre made ones. You don't have a secret recipe for home made ones perhaps?

RD's Quick and Easy Biscuits (For AFA, but actually better than the refrigerator biscuits!)
2 cups all purpose flour
6 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons butter or margarine (softened 15 seconds in microwave)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
milk (at least half a cup) I used 3/4 C.
Mix flour, baking powder, butter, and salt until well mixed. When pressed together, it should hold it's shape, but crumbled once disturbed. Add egg and approx 1/4 cup of milk. Mix well. Add milk until you reach desired consistency.
Softer dough means lighter, softer biscuits. For stiffer, more filling biscuits, use stiffer dough.
Turn onto well floured surface, and roll to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Biscuits will double in size when baked. Cut into circles, and let rest on sprayed or lightly greased pan for 5 - 10 mins.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 -12 minutes (until lightly golden) Enjoy!
