Flies,Fries, and an Oddity or Two

These are a few emerger/dry flies. They work well on the small streams I fish.

At this time of year fishing pretty much takes up my time. With much more pleasant weather and trout being more the feeding mood, the fly tying can take a backseat.
But there are times when I'll take a few hours to crank one or two out.

Two streamers that are general representations of baitfish found in most waters. They can be effective for various fish, from trout to bass.

Home fried potatoes. A favorite. Red skinned potatos, cut in various sizes, so as to have some of those small crunchy ones, fried in a skillet and enjoyed at any time of day. Breakfast, lunch, supper, or while listening to Boston's Josh Beckett pitching a one hit complete game shutout.

An oddity or two that I've seen along some of the waters I fish.
While these stones are not odd, but where they were found was.

For the life of me, I can't understand how this tree accomplished this.

  1. haha I've never seen anything like that tree? One day when the fishing adventures slow I want to learn to tie streamers like these, because you streamer patterns have impressed me.

  3. Funny you should mention the stones being in such a odd buy yet somewhat uniform shape. From time to time in my travels along the streams edge I will see just that odd sized rocks stacked, piled, in a row ETC. I guess it's just one of the those things we will never know the answer to.

  4. Nice looking flies. Those streamers look like they would be killers on the smallies I used to fish for back in MN.

Those home fried potatoes look mighty good, and probably would accompany a one hit shutout nicely...

  6. Great Pics. Now I am so hungry after staring at those potatoes. yuMMMMo. Great looking flies and streamers. The rock pile is crazy and so is the Tree pic. Native Americans used to bend trees like that as a direction marker. Probably a little to young of a tree for that, but maybe some secret treasure marker:) Nature is a mysterious, awesome thing. Great Post.

  8. Bruce,
Thanks. That tree had me trying for hours to figure that could possibly happen.

    George,
    Thanks.
I too have seen these little stacks of stones. They must have some meaning to whom ever piled them.

  9. Sanders,
    Thanks.
I'm sure a hungry smallie would find those streamers as appetizing as the home fries.

    Dustin,
    Thanks.
The potatoes are seasoned with salt, pepper, red pepper, and paprika.

  11. Nice flybox, too. Did you make it? Is it carved, burned, or marquetry?

btw, how is the TFO six-foot 3-wt rod working out?

  12. Gary,
    Thanks.
The fly box was a gift, and the design seems to have been burned into the wood.

The TFO is working fine. It's a great little rod, and for the money, it's hard to beat.
