The West Branch, Farmington River, Connecticut
It's 5am Saturday, the rain is coming down to beat the band, that's a good thing though. I'm on my second cup of Nantucket and by the way I'm typing it has not taken effect. Well I'm not going to fish today so I'll tie up some streamers for "Streamers 365" and maybe do a little cooking, and maybe a trip to Cabelas to try and find a bargain that should take up some time.
The "Quest"
The real reason for this post is this streamer and the thought behind it. I created and tied it to fish it in the Farmington river. The river is one of the northeast finest tail water fisheries. It holds brown, rainbow and brook trout. There is a good population of wild brown trout that reach ample proportions.
My thought, hope, is to fish this streamer this Autumn with the hope of taking one of those browns or brook trout.

Beautiful streamer , I can't wait to see it hanging out of the corner of a big ole brown or brookie when you make that trip. Looks like some incredible water from the picture.

It's a great fishery, and the fall brings on the heavy eating.
Beautiful streamer! I hope you succeed in your quest.
ReplyDeleteHave fun tying and fishing beautiful streamers,

The quest is cake, success would be the frosting.
I don't know what I'd do with that streamer other than look at it. It's too pretty to fish. Good luck Alan!

ReplyDeleteAbsolute outstanding streamer, that thing looks too good to fish, it needs to under glass---you mentioned in your post that the Farmington is a tail water fishery, are the trout stocked in this tail water? The reason I am asking is the tailrace I fish has only rainbow, because the tailrace commission thinks that the browns will eat most of the rainbows, which I feel is not true. Our club has talked about adding brook, and browns to the tailrace but some members are against it. What is your take on this?

Trout are stocked, all three, brown, brook, and rainbow. There is an Atlantic salmon restoration also going on, with both salmon fry and smolts stocked. There are many tribs to the Farmy, and wild trout production in some as well as the Farmy. The browns are real meat eaters but do not effect the other species dramatically. As far as your club stocking any trout, I would suggest your state fisheries be presented with it first.
I'll see if I can get some links for you on the Farmington.
Beautiful colors. Go get'em.

It did come out rather nice.
Nice tie. And once again you also hit it out of the park with the name. Great name.
ReplyDeleteA day well spent Brk Trt, that is if you can't be fishing. 5 plus inches of rain here in the last 36 hours and still coming down..That's a pretty streamer there...
