Simplicity and Satisfaction

Sometimes we have that tendency to over complicate things in our lives. Times when they might not be of our doing, but still they draw us into them. When I started this blog it was to show the simple, uncomplicated style of fly fishing. Simplicity, which would enable one to not only enjoy angling, but the beauty associated with it.

These are a few uncomplicated and simple things that are have been associated with my fly angling over the years.

Sausage and onions, placed on a crusty roll, how simple is that.

Sauteed cabbage with bacon and noodles. The only thing that's complicated is weather to use a fork or a spoon.

Pizza, "nuff said.

Gumbo. This might be a brain buster in the fact that we have to complicate it trying to decide what to put into it.

Lets start simplifying things and get the complications out of fly fishing, well if not fly fishing then perhaps dining after we fly fish.

  1. Hi Alan......I couldn't agree with you more about adding simplicity to our lives. I was taught the Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) Principle by a guy at work years ago and have been thankful ever since; however, I don't always follow the advice but I always end up back to the principle eventually.

I love the pictures of the food and am glad that I am heading to brunch very shortly.

By the way, what is the name of the fly in the first picture?

    1. Ed,
      Thanks.
      KISS, I must remember.
The fly is an old Maine pattern, "Warden's Worry". First tied in 1929, and it's a very good fly.

    2. Now please tell me what is the name of the drink in the first photo......

I could not find anything on Google that looked like that when I entered Mexican Cola.

    3. Ed,
It's Mexicane Cola. It's a hand crafted cola made in Maine.
The company is Maine Root Beverage.

  2. Hi Alan!

I agree 100 percent! Making fly fishing simple gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy many of the wonders of nature that surrounds us or where we fish. That might be more important sometimes to bring us joy and satisfaction than the fishing itself. It might be the things we remember a long time after the events of fishing on a special occasion has faded. Thanks for sharing!

The original recipe called for salt pork, but I prefer bacon.

  7. But if I keep it all simple then I'll never get French, Polish, Euro nymphing and Czech nymphing sorted out! Just jokes! But that is the truth! One rod, one fly box, one afternoon, one lasting memory!
