Connecticut Fly Fisherman's Association Annual Flytyers Round Table

It's almost here, the annual Connecticut Fly Fisherman's Association "Fly Tyer's Roundtable". It's a great get together. There will be many tyers represented here with flies for every type of angling, both fresh and salt water.

The event will be held at the CFFA, on April 8th, at 7pm. It's located at Veteran's Memorial Club House, 100 Sunset Ridge Drive, East Hartford, CT.

I'll be there and I hope to see you there. This a great opportunity to meet with some wonderful tyers and anglers. This event is "Free" and all are invited.

I'll be tying soft hackles and this will be one that I'll feature. It was a good producer for me last year, both here and in Shenandoah.

This will be another fly I'll feature. A soft hackle dry fly.

So come down and say hello.

  1. Ah, the magic of soft hackles!

Beautiful to look at, and they're fun to cast and swing downstream. I love the simplicity, an almost purity, to fishing soft hackles....

  2. I agree with "Blog FlyFishMA" Nothing like a soft hackle. That "sulpher" looking version is totally awesome! Reminds me of a Steve Colton "Magic Fly" wet, but a hair simpler. The green is super. It clicks. That's about 90' drive for me, so perhaps a bit to far on a week day... So many blog's I follow are CT guys and could be there so I may just have to see if it's possible regardless.

    1. Hibernation,
      Thanks.
Will it's very similar, only Steve puts in some more effort with a tail and some fine looking dubbing.
I'd enjoy meeting you if you could make it.

    2. Funny Alan - that's what I thought. Your fly looks like it would do the same thing, but saves a step or two... Likewise!

How I wish I could attend this event and see some of the best fly tiers turn out a lot of the classic patterns. I am looking forward to your report on this event. That soft hackle dry pattern you've featured is deadly. I hope to get to try some the flies you mailed me sometimes this week. Generation has been none stop for the past couple of weeks here on our tailrace. So impressed with your photo of the day, where exactly is this shop located. My wife and I will are making a trip up your way in late May or June, we will going all the way up the east coast to Maine. Thanks for sharing

    1. Bill Trussell,
      Thanks.
The sulphur pattern is a great fly around here. Lot's of anglers use the "Usual" to represent it. The jury is still out on these soft hackle dry flies mainly because of lousy weather. Can't wait 'til you post on those flies.

Bill that's the Beaverkill Angler fly shop in Roscoe NY. It's in the Catskills. If your up that way Roscoe it's a must stop. The Catskill Fly Fishing Museum is near and a great deal of fly fishing history in America is featured.

  4. Awesome ties and that sulpher fly is pretty interesting. Is that wet fly the partridge and hares mask soft hackle from earlier in the year? I have to tie some of those they look like winners.

Chris I generally do bring a few to show. I don't tie them there because of the time it takes to do one.
