This past week has been very exciting and very humbling for me. I enjoyed several days of fishing and walking along a few streams on Cape Cod. That little adventure brings with it the opportunity to take some photos of the area and the truly special trout that call it home. But the humbling part was still to come.......
Friday morning I did a post on Red Brook. During the day I checked back like I usually do to reply to comments. I also checked my e-mail and saw one from "Fox News Channel"..I opened it and it was a request from a producer for the show "The Five" which airs live every week night at 5pm. The request was for permission to use the photos of the Red Brook feature on The Five. It seems that Tucker Carlson one of the hosts on the show is a reader of "Small Stream Reflections" and wanted to feature it on his portion of "One More Thing". Well I responded and gave the OK.
Super congratulations at so many levels here - and a hat tip to the trout too - thanks to your link to our site, we've had a boost as well.
ReplyDeleteSeems there was something on NBC Hartford TV in addition to Fox??
If anyone has a youtube like video of any of these segments, please let us know.
Have a great day!

Geof we all benefited. I did not know about NBC 30 airing anything.
Nice job! I guess now there are a whole new group of people who can appreciate what many of us have known for years.

Chris a nice comment. Now we have a bit more folks interested in "salter" brook trout.
Congratulation Alan! It's nice to know there is some public support/interest in preserving these remaining habitats

Theresa a BIG surprise.
Alan
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised the Red Brook post got the attention it did; why because you have a way of conveying the love we all have for fly fishing through your words and your incredible images on all your post. Congrats for the honor, no doubt Trucker Carson loves fly fishing as well! Thanks for sharing

Bill I try to show the absolute beauty of the natural world in its magnificent setting, but still try to keep it simple. One can derive an awful lot from a photo.
Good site. I saw the Fox segment last week and searched you out. Beautiful photos, honest content. Nice job -- I see why they ran it.

Al I'm happy to hear from someone who viewed the segment.
Another star has emerged among us. Congratulations........

Mark I won't go so far as to say star, at least not for me. It's the "salters" that are the stars.
Congrats, Alan!

Mel you are to kind.....
Wow, Alan that's great! Its also nice to have something to speak positively about coming from Fox News. These days I'm more used to it being totally non factual garbage hosted by totally uneducated individuals who like to "stir the pot." I'll have to check it out.

I didn't see the segment, I sure hope it emphasized that these fish need protecting. Congratulations are in order regardless!

Rowan there was not much time to say everything, but if folks care to learn more they can contact the Sea-Run Brook Trout Coalition......the link is at the box at the end of this post.
That's really cool Alan! Do you know if there is a link where you can see the segment online?
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Will
I asked before seeing your reply to RM... Ill check that out.

ReplyDeleteCongrats from a fellow flyfisher in AZ. I was watching The Five and had your site up before that segment ended. Great work. I wished I had closer access to trout streams.
ReplyDeleteGot plenty of LM bass on the manmade lake I live on, but there is nothing better than waving my 7ft 6 in Sage 4 wt and catching brookies and browns on a fly you tied the evening before.

Welcome my friend from Arizona. LM bass are very formidable on the fly. On the trout fishing I won't disagree.
I think you need to invite Tucker amd Eric Boling out to fish. It would be a perfect way to raise the plight of your salt streams and make some friends in the media.
DeleteI would come to help untangle their windknots ;)
AD
DeleteI'd be happy to take them on an outing to Red Brook. Wind knots excluded.
I am new to your site thanks to Tucker's comments. He had very thoughtful things to say about SmallStreamReflection. Now that I have found it, I can see why. Blake

Glad that your blog is getting the recognition that it deserves. It seems as though you have a bunch of new readers who are beginning to experience how great this blog truly is. I'm not the biggest fan of Fox News, but I'm glad they gave credit where credit is due. Congrats.

Great job buddy! I was here on day 1. :-) I fly fish with Steve Liesman CNBC Senior Economics Reporter on occasion, I told him about your blog awhile back as well. Glad to spread the word about your small stream fishing adventures. I'll be back out on the water with you this winter. See you soon.

John you are correct "day 1".........speaking of winter, might want to think of a stream for the "New Years tradition"
Thank you Tucker for the introduction to a great local blog.
