Keeping busy and finding lots of enjoyable things to do. Last week I took a beautiful boat ride on a gorgeous lake. The fly rod was in use but that was not the highlight of the day, that came from the company I was with, my brother in law John. Had a good time remembering so many things we've shared over a lifetime.
I even managed to fool one of these guys.
Jeanette and I took a little road trip to the Green Mountain state of Vermont. We enjoyed a beautiful breakfast at a very old diner. We then drove further north to the town of Norwich to the King Arthur Mill. They have a bakery and cafe that will have you drooling all of the time inside.
We bought some bread that was incredible. I also picked up a scone mix that I will test this week.
I would like to wish all of the Mothers out there a very "Happy Mothers Day".......wild flowers for mom. Thank you.
A nice outing; thanks for the take along, Alan. (Love the photo below too.)

Bill that photo is of my buddy Pete. We fished a stream one October that had many friendly brookies.
I agree with the quote about bread. I bake all our sourdough, two loaves twice a week. It is a feast, lightly toasted with salted butter and honey and washed down with a coffee. Lovely lake there. John

John the simplicity of great food. Hard to beat.
I love the King Arthur store, my wife and I stop there whenever we're down there. Your lake pic has me excited about trolling streamers; the Fish River lakes finally went ice free yesterday.

Mike good to hear it's ice out time. That bakery-cafe is awesome. The smells put you back in grandmas kitchen.

ReplyDeleteThose out of the way places are always a great getaway. Good homemade bread is hard to beat especially when you add some homemade jelly or jam. Beautiful gill, hope to have a report on the flies sometimes this week, thanks again for getting them to me!

Bill exploration can lead you to some enchanting places. Hope the flies turn on a few fish for you.
First I want to thank you for stopping at King Arthur. With as much as my wife buys from there, I believe we own stock in it. On the other hand, Alan on a lake? The shock is too much. I'm going now.

Mark you were on my mind while I walked the place.
I will fish a few lakes-ponds in the course of a year.
Snacks at Weir's Beach, a boat ride on the MV Mt. Washington, and dinner at the turkey farm. A change of pace from LL/Lk trout trolling at Newfound Lk, NH. A wonderful Spring vacation.

Armando the fish is a sunfish, they are very common in the lakes and ponds of north America. They are fun to catch and are real battlers on light fly rods.
Alan, you always make the most of every day. Happy Mother's Day to Jeanette.

Howard it's important to do just that. We never know when those days will run out.
Alan,
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the Bluegill you featured above! It's been my happy experience that they take soft-hackles, wets, and flymphs very well! They are my "wild fish" in my area!
Glad to see you out and about esp. in Vermont! Beautiful state indeed and their breads look delicious!
A great post for sure!
