What a beautiful morning......

This is a stream I've fished before on a very limited basis. I was here before on a couple of outings and tossed a fly about and caught a big skunk. I like the stream and it's lovely location, quiet and pretty accessible. The walk in was level clear and beautifully appointed. The lower part of the stream did not give up a fish although it should have, and my thoughts were to try it upstream. This was a good day to try it for the weather was so nice. It was actually cool that morning for the heat wave was a day away and had not taken hold as of then.

Look at this pool, man there has to be something in there.

There was and it smacked the fly just as it touched the surface. The male brook trout was gracious and allowed a quick photo before swimming back in his pool.

"A little brookie tease"...

Moving upstream I came upon this rushing water inlet. I don't know where it came from but was glad to see it.

I was also glad to see this guy.

Cold water, you bet. 52-54.

Brook trout love places like this. You know what I do to.

This wild one is one of the finest brookies I have caught this year.

This is as far upstream that I fished, but there a lot of stream to explore...more to come.

  2. Fifty-three degrees. Can't be too far from the spring. Little Brookie's getting suited up for Fall.

John I would say the water is a bit warmer after the week we've had so far. I'd say you were correct in saying the spring is close. Color is starting to show.

  3. I wonder if that rushing inlet isn't a cold spring feeding that brook, Alan? 52 degrees this time of year for a small stream like that one is a real gift. That is one nice stream with beautiful brook trout making a living in it. That big brook trout is incredibly beautiful and good sized for a stream that small.

Sam that inflow of water was really gushing. I should have taken a temp to see how cold it was. I'm going back there tomorrow and I'll investigate a bit more.
There were several hits that I feel were larger fish, a few pools were quite deep and who knows.

  4. That is a fabulous looking place and that trout is positively psychedelic in colour. Sue and fished lots of small streams like that in Wales for brownies. A lovely post Alan. thank you. Regards, John

John these little streams are similar, much like others around this world. I'm thankful for that for a large river might be an issue for me.
