October, the tenth month of the year. We have gone through through winter, spring and summer, times of the year that in themselves bring tough days and good days. Now in the next 31 days all that is great and beautiful in the natural world will be showcased and I hope you all can take part in it. Unlike any other month of the year October gives us the full scope of what the natural world is. How it can give the soul an incredible high. The mind can be so relaxed and out of it that one does not realize it. Time spent in the outdoors in October will give us that strength needed to get us through what's ahead. I hope you'll take the time and spend some of it outdoors.
A simple lunch enjoyed along a stream.
Not to be outdone by the breath taking foliage the wild brook trout is a sight to behold at this time of year. Yes my friends we have now entered the "glorious season".....
The perfect streamside lunch! I think I could live quite happily on PB&J sandwiches. The color this far north is at peak and our season has closed; snow tomorrow night. Birds and rabbits are now the focus. That's a beautiful trout, Alan.

Mike I do enjoy PB&J, but like you my wife could also live on them. Not ready for snow just yet, although we a getting some much needed rain. Good luck on the upland hunting.
The fall is amazing, and I agree with Mike, that's a great lunch on a stream! Coffee tastes better too, when spiced with the smell of fall leaves :)!

Will even bad coffee tastes great. I should say a bad thermos bottle can make good coffee taste bad. And the perfume of October is hard to beat....love it all.

It's not new I've had it for some time and fish it every now and then.
It's an Orvis Superfine Full Flex. 6' 4wt.
The Fall is my favorite season and I view it as nature's swan song before the winter. Great pictures and enjoy the season!

Sam seems like PB&J is a fly anglers go to sandwich. Rain here today. Was on a small stream today and did very well with dries. Some good days ahead.
Nothing like hits on a dry fly, Alan. Fondly remembered during the winter which carries us through until spring. Until then plenty of good fishing left!

ReplyDeleteIndeed, October is magical and enchanted! My calendar says Oct. 3rd but it is July hot out there! This is crazy and miserable at the same time! I did have a chance to fish a far off and favorite lake this past Sunday and wow was that exciting! The water was gin clear and the bluegills were rising freely. I banked about thirty fish before things shut down! It was fly fishing at it's best! Cooler temps are on their way this evening and tomorrow morning! Viva October!

Doug it was hot Wed. luckily that was the only day and things are back to normal. It is a fine day when you have rising fish, and even better when those fish take your flies. Be well.

Bill I believe the foliage will be well past peak by that time. You may be able to find a pocket or two remaining but it will be scarce. Enjoy your trip and I hope you have included a stop in Freeport to LL Bean.
