"Stimulators"

A pattern created by Randall Kaufmann to represent Stoneflies.
This pattern is used widely in western streams.

I carry several colors and sizes in my fly box.
How many of you carry them and use them?

  1. Just want you to know that I enjoy your posts on neflyfishing. I am not sure that I use this pattern often. What exactly is a bomber pattern? I notice that you do quite well with them.

  2. OB,

Its a pattern created by Fran Betters of Wilmington, New York.

I'm not sure what it actually represents, but it does catch fish.

I'm going to do a feature on it soon.

    Thanks,

  3. I have great success with them, especially in size 16 on the Mianus River in CT. I'm headed to a pond down the hill from me that gets stocked for the kids fishing derby this evening. There are lots of fish leftover from the derby I saw rising yesterday that I will try to "Stimulate" today. :)

  5. Landed quite a few fat rainbows this evening on a #14 Stimulator. Very acrobatic fish. Great fun after work and walking distance from our cottage. Can't beat that.
