"Oquossoc"

Oquossoc is a small town in western Maine. It sits on the lakes of Mooselookmeguntic, and Rangeley. The town has some small shops, restaurants, a general store and now an outdoor heritage museum.

The outlet to Rangeley Lake is there and creates the Rangeley River. The river flows a short distance until it joins the Kennebago River and flows into Mooselookmeguntic Lake.
The Rangeley River has been a fishing destination of mine for many years and has given up some beautiful brook trout and salmon. In the fall each ascends the river from Mooselookmeguntic to spawn. To journey along the river will offer wildlife views that are spectacular, moose, black bear, deer, and partridge.

I have created this streamer and have named it after this wonderful place in western Maine.

  2. Brt Trt,
I too love the Western Maine area of Rangley, which I've spent a lot of time there myself in the past. Mostly in the Wilson Mills area, which is home to Tim Pond Camps.

I myself maybe heading to Pittsburgh NH on Columbus day weekend, for Brookies, Browns & Salmon on the head waters of the Connecticut. That area to is Gods Country......DRYFLYGUY

  3. Alan,

    Beautiful steamers.

Speaking of Maine, the state is looking for volunteers to document the native Brook Trout population in western Maine. I read this in TU's Fall 2011 edition. People can choose among 187 bodies of water. If you or anyone who reads your blog are interested,, then contact www.tumaine.org.

I'd traveled the Northeast with the old folks in the early 70's and was immediately struck by Maine's spectacular "desolation". Spectacular would also be an apt description of your original streamers.

  5. Wonderful streamer. You seem very passionate about all things Maine. The way you talk about the Rangeley area makes me very interested in this special area. I'd love to experience this area for myself one day.

  6. Hey BT. Another fly suitable for framing. I'd write a book, but Dave Bargeron beat me to it.

  8. John,
    Thanks.
75 was the first year I went to Rangeley, been doing ever since. Thank you for the comment on the streamers.

    G. Lech,
    Thanks.
There are perhaps better fishing destinations, but not for me. It's a beautiful area offering wilderness fishing, with lots of fly fishing history.

    Shoreman,
