We are now into November. The days are real short in terms of actual light. And there is snow in our future. Now that the shock of reality has set in I would like to show you some of the great days of October, a truly "glorious" season. The gentle rolling hills in blazing color.
We stopped along the road to admire the color when an apple tree appeared. An apple picked and enjoyed all be it tart.
One of my best wild brook trout of October. A true wild jewel.
While seeking out a stream I crossed a cornfield. In the corn I spotted quite a few bluebirds. Lovely creatures.

The cobble in the stream in competition with fallen leaves. I love places like this in the streams.
A brookie and a bamboo rod. Many times in October these two combined to fill my mind and soul with joy and inspiration.

beautiful photos and really October is a beautiful month both in North America and in my place of the South American cone, with low temperatures even of 10 gcentigrade about 50 fahrenheit ... prepare to receive there the hard and long winter.

Simply beautiful, Alan. I remember when I hunted grouse I would come across some wild apples and remember how tart they were. They were a nice treat though. That first brook trout is really something! I bet it fought like crazy.

Grouse hunting. That is something I've not done in years. I remember my last hunt, no grouse but a beautiful woodcock was harvested. Where that apple was picked was in grouse country of Vermont. That brookie was taken on the bamboo rod and it's battle was epic.

A fine collection of October photos Alan. I got 4 days of heavy rain that took another week until the river slowed & cleaned up. But, I still managed to catch some fine coastal cutthroat & a couple coho.

ReplyDeleteYou have chronicled October quite well! Thanks to you, this magical month will be in our memories forever! Thank you for this! October in Ohio was quite spectacular! Many beautiful trees and scenes were on fire like never before! When the water starts to turn over and becomes gin clear, it gives the bluegill a steely blue appearance that is pretty awesome! They also seem to prefer smaller, darker patterns and will put up some awe inspiring rises against them! For a short period of time, matching the hatch and 7x tippets (sometimes 8x) take on more importance! Sometimes maddening but always wonderful!

Doug as you state the water clarity is awesome. And as the bluegill prefers the darker smaller fly so does the brookie, stay tuned for "small and dark" which is coming to your favorite blog.
And October which we remember as lovely a bit of reality this morning..."ice" on the pond out front of home. The earliest I have seen it in 20 years.
